The onslaught stopped as suddenly as it had started.

For a while I stayed there, scraping the gunk off; my head spinning with her threats. ‘You’re off your trolley!’ I shouted after her. But I was determined. She can do whatever she likes, but I was free of her. She had no hold over me whatsoever. If I want to go out with Poppy, I will, and if I decide to ask her to marry me, I will. In fact, the idea seemed more attractive by the minute.

I got into the car, switched on the engine and shifted into gear. ‘Mad as a hatter!’ I muttered. ‘She wants locking up!’

I was furious, ‘It’d do her good to be put in a cell like me and Dickie.’

That got me thinking about the past few days, and a little smile spread, and then I was laughing out loud. ‘I’m a disaster area!’

  But you know what?

I’m just glad to be alive, and if my crazy control freak of an ex thinks she can stop me from seeing Poppy, she’s got another thing coming, because from now on, nobody, but nobody is going to tell me what to do!

When I got home, I discovered that she’d let all my tyres down. The thing is, I thought that funny, flapping sound was my stomach rumbling. I guess I was lost in Poppy’s kiss!
